Tertiary Flora of the Most Basin

DetailTertiary Flora of the Most Basin

23.2.2017 - 30.9.2017

For more than two centuries, brown coal mining has been taking place in the Most Basin area. In the excavated layers of overburden, enormous amounts of fossils have been found over these two centuries. Especially plant fossils. About 150 species of plants have been described from here so far.

The exhibition Tertiary Flora presents to the public the plant fossils that grew around Most 17 to 22 million years ago. The most commonly exhibited specimens are leaves of trees, shrubs, and herbs. Fruits, cones, inflorescences, or seeds are less frequently preserved.

The species diversity and exceptional preservation of fossils make the Most Basin one of the
most significant European fossil sites.

The exhibition will last until September 30, 2017
