How did late antique paganism influence the Christian church? Why do we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity on December 25, the same day that the Day of the Unconquered Sun was celebrated? What influence did Mithraism and the cult of the victorious Sun have on the structures, festivals, and iconography of Roman Christianity? Who was the god Mithra and why is the bishop's miter and pastoral staff a symbol? Why do saints still have a solar halo around their heads? Could late antique paganism also be monotheistic?
