Exhibit of the Month 2 / 2019

BLACK SWAN (Cygnus atratus)

A distinctive species of swan inhabiting fresh, brackish, and salt waters of Australia. Its way of life is similar to that of the European Mute Swan.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the black swan was kept as an ornamental bird, and some individuals that escaped captivity may be found in the wild.

The exhibited specimen was found dead in 2000 in Šluknov.
