Alternative Religions in Czech Society
The lecture will be given by Doc. PhDr. Zdeněk Vojtíšek, Ph.D. - a Czech religion scholar focusing primarily on the study of cults, sects, and new religious movements. (New religious movements is a term used for various modern groups associated with religion. According to some sources, their emergence is motivated by a new religious idea. New religious movements usually respond to the needs of society, especially where social life is somehow disrupted.)
Zdeněk Vojtíšek is the head of the Department of Religious Studies at the Hussite Theological Faculty of Charles University, an associate professor at the Department of Religious Studies of the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Charles University, a founding member and spokesperson of the Society for the Study of Sects and New Religious Movements. His focus at the Department of Religious Studies includes new religious movements, contemporary lived religions, interreligious dialogue, millennialism, religion and counseling, religion and psychotherapy.
The lecture will take place in the conference hall of the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most, Čsl. armády 1360/35.
