50 Years Since the Miracle on the Rails

Historian Mgr. Dominik Marek of the Regional Museum and Gallery in Most is publishing a book entitled Fifty Years Since the Miracle on the Rails: Memories of Witnesses to the Relocation of the Deanery Church in Most, which offers a unique perspective on one of the most remarkable engineering operations in Czechoslovak history—the relocation of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in 1975.

The book documents the events surrounding the relocation and the transfer itself not only through historical facts, but above all through the personal memories of eyewitnesses—people directly involved in the relocation. The author drew on information from five interviews, archival documents, and period photographs, which together paint a vivid picture of the time when the city of Most was undergoing dramatic change.

The book’s launch event will take place on November 20, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Most. We warmly invite the public, eyewitnesses, and everyone interested in the city’s history and cultural heritage.
